JAMMU, July 21: In a landmark development for the Union Territory of Ladakh, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Kavinder Gupta, has officially assumed office as the 3rd Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. His appointment heralds the beginning of a transformative era-driven by developmental foresight and national integration.
On this momentous occasion, S. S. Sodhi, President of J&K Intellectual Civil Society (New Delhi), PVC/Director of DPS Schools, J&K, and President of the J&K Rifle Association, met Shri Gupta at Ladakh Bhavan in New Delhi to extend his heartfelt congratulations and express full confidence in his ability to reshape Ladakh's future through visionary leadership and people-centric policies.
Sodhi also conveyed his deep appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for entrusting a dedicated grassroots leader with this vital responsibility. "Kavinder Gupta's lifelong commitment to public service and intimate understanding of ground realities makes him the ideal choice for this role," he noted.
A stalwart of Indian politics, Kavinder Gupta brings with him over four decades of dedicated public service-marked by integrity, discipline, and a deep commitment to the welfare of the people. His illustrious political journey includes serving as Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, and being elected three times as Mayor of Jammu. Throughout his career, he has remained steadfast in his devotion to the nation and its democratic values.
In his first address as Lieutenant Governor, Gupta reiterated his vision for a "New Ladakh"-characterized by sustainable development, inclusive harmony, global recognition, and a renewed focus on preserving Ladakh's unique identity. He underlined key areas such as modern infrastructure, holistic education, and eco-friendly tourism as core priorities of his administration.
Congratulating him, S. S. Sodhi stated, "Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta has consistently upheld the values of selfless service and effective leadership. His long political and administrative experience will open a new chapter for Ladakh-positioning it as a premier destination for sustainable tourism, cultural pride, and national integration.
