| Murder of childhood friend of ex-CM | | HC directs DIG Crime Branch to appear in person | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 01- In a much publicized murder case of Ghulam Mohammed Rather, a NC leader and childhood friend of Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Chief Minister, Justice Virender Singh of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Jammu Wing today directed Yoginder Koul, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Crime & Railways, Jammu to be present in person on May 25, 2009 along with the concerned Investigating Officer of this case having in his possession the complete investigation file including the police dairies for perusal of the Court. After perusing the status report submitted by the DIG Crime and Railways on the earlier directions of the Court, the Court today directed DIG Koul to appear in person on the next date of hearing fixed for May 25. It may be recalled that the petitioner and the relation of the deceased had been alleging that conspiracy having been hatched by one Abdul Rashid brother-in-law of Mohammed Sharief Naiz former power minister presently MLC, his nephew Fiaz Mohammed and Mohammed Younis along with other private respondents under the guidance of Mohammed Sharief Niaz for doing away with the life of deceased Ghulam Mohammed Rather. When the then Chief Minister was informed about the whole episode by a delegation of the people of the area headed by ex-MLC Mohammed Iqbal Bhat at his residence on February 5, 2007, he immediately asked IGP Crime and Railways to look into the matter seriously and not to spare any one whosoever influential he may be.
