| Various labour organizations observe May Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MAY 1: Like other parts of the country, various labour organizations of the region observed/celebrate May day and paid glowing tributes to those martyrs of 1886 Chicago movement who sacrificed lives for the upliftment of working class. On the occasion leaders of various organization demanded that a national holiday under negotiable instrument Act be declared on 1st May as a mark of recognition to the contributions of the working class in socio-economic development of the country and as well state. Addressing the labour cell of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers its state president and former minister Th. Randir Singh called for strict implementation of labour laws in the country and evolve a comprehensive policy in J&K state to ensure socio-economic upliftment of working class. He also demanded that all vacant posts of assistant labour commissioners he filled up in all districts of the state and added that minimum wages to be raised from Rs. 70 to Rs. 200. The function among others was attended by Gulab Chand, Capt Allah Rakh, Dr. Janak Raj, Bodh Raj, Sham Gorkha, Prof Romal Singh etc. Indian National Trade Union Congress workers under the leadership of its president Shiv Kumar Sharma paid tributes to the martyrs of labour movement. Sharma in his address demanded that 6th pay commission report be implemented on full as approved by the central government and also remove all anomalies. Regularization of all daily wagers, employment of wards to retiring employees and employment on compassionate grounds were the demands highlighted on the occasion. Among other who also spoke were member parliament Lal Singh, Madan Lal Sharma, health minister, Sham Lal Sharma and MLA, MLCs. All non-gazetted employees of Economic & Statistics organization on the occasion took pledge to work with dedication and put their labour in the right direction for development of the state. Sanjeev Gupta of the organization in his address made appeal to the government for suitable remuneration as per centre pay commission recommendation in view of higher cost of the living and revival of the medical policy for all govt employees. He also sought the attention of concerned authorities towards pay anomalies in SRO-93. Bharatiyan Mazdoor Sangh in an workers meeting discussed various problems being faced by the employees and should resentment against the state government for not issuing SRO- reqarding revision of minimum wages. The BMS labour leaders demanded that government to issue minimum wages notification without any further delay and implementation of contract labour act in letter and sprit strictly without any further delay so that poor workering class may get actual benefit failing which BMS will stare agitation in coming days. In the meeting Ravinder Singh Jamwla, Karan Singh, Rashpal Singh, Kishore Kumar, Nanak Chand, Som Dass and Yog Raj participated. J&K Kissan Mazdoor party leaders said, no attention is being paid for the upligtment of labour. Day to day cost of essential items is touching new heights. National Mazoor Conference, President Subash Sharstri has urged the chief minister, Omar Abdullah to intervene personally and ensure that all the anomalies in the SRO-93 are removed so that all sections of the salaried class are benefited from the implementation of 6th Commission in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a rally of NMC workers in connection with May day at Brahmin Sabha here today, be appreciated the Chief Minister for timely issuance of the SRo with regard to implementation of 6th Pay Panel report as per the connitment he made to the employees representatives. He said the implementation of the report has developed a good rapport between the Government and te employees and urged Omar to consider removal of anomalies in the said SRO to satisfy all sections of the salaried class. He demanded that the arrears on account of 6th Pay Commission implementation be released in two installments. Shastri pleaded that all the allo0wances and perks which have been made available to the Central Government staff under the 6th Pay Commission report be paid to state employes. Among those who also addressed the May Day rally included Rajan Babu Khajuria, Sunil Kochhar, Sham Lal Sharma, Bupinder Singh, Kasturi Lal, chaman Lal Bhagat Sukh Dev Singh, Parshotam Kumar, Asha Singh, Surinder Kumar, Puran Chandadn Barkat Ram.
