| Afghan origin drug racket busted | | | SUMIT SHARMA Jammu, May 1: The Crime Branch has busted a drug trafficking racket with its roots in Afghanistan and supplies headed for rest of India through Jammu and Kashmir. In a late last night a raid conducted by both teams of Crime Branch Jammu and Srinagar seven opium smugglers were arrested from a hotel situated in Residency road. Sample of opium, 500 grams, was also recovered from their possession. All of them were taken back to Srinagar for interrogation. Sleuths of Crime Branch Srinagar were chasing the smugglers from Srinagar and after confirming their location; team sought help of sleuths of Crime Branch Jammu and in joint raid conducted in the hotel seven smugglers were arrested, besides recovered five gram opium from their possession. Recovered opium was a sample to testify the quality of the product before the consignment smuggled in different parts of Indian dealers. “Seven drug smuggles with opium were arrested in a raid jointly conducted by Crime Branch teams”, SSP Crime Branch told. Inside sources told that the consignment of opium is being brought to Srinagar from Afghanistan and the same is supplied to different part of Indian territories, when the raid was conducted in the hotel the purity of the opium and its deal was being done among the smugglers who were hailing from Jammu and other part of India.However accused were taken to Srinagar for further questioning, sources maintained.
