Early Times Report JAMMU, July 27: In its ongoing efforts to curb the illegal sale and use of banned nylon thread (Gattu), which poses serious hazards to public safety and the environment, Police Station Pacca Danga has successfully apprehended two individuals in separate operations. In the first case, Vishushant Kuril S/o Anil Gupta Kuril R/o H. No. 292-F, Hari Singh Nagar, Pacca Danga, Jammu, was arrested and 09 rolls of banned nylon thread were recovered from his possession in connection with FIR No. 84/2025 U/S 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. In a separate incident, Ansh Gupta S/o Rajinder Gupta R/o Lane No. 08, House No. 202, Shakti Nagar, Jammu, was found in possession of 28 rolls of nylon thread, and FIR No. 85/2025 U/S 223 BNS was registered accordingly . A total of 37 rolls of banned Gattu were seized in both cases. It is pertinent to mention that nylon thread, popularly known as Gattu, is a non-biodegradable and dangerously sharp material, known to cause serious and even fatal injuries to motorcyclists and pedestrians, kill birds by entangling and slashing their wings or necks, and contribute significantly to environmental pollution by clogging drains and harming water bodies. Its use is strictly banned under law and is also a violation of orders issued by the District Magistrate. Police Station Pacca Danga urges the general public to strictly avoid the sale and use of such dangerous material and warns that strict legal action shall be taken against all violators. The Police remains committed to safeguarding public life, bird life, and the environment, and continues its zero-tolerance policy towards the use of banned Gattu. |
