Poonch Brigade Commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas

Poonch, July 28: On the solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas 2025, the Poonch Brigade, under the aegis of Operation Sadbhawna, organised a series of commemorative events in Ajote Village, Poonch to honour the supreme sacrifice of local hero Hav Abdul Majid, KC (Posthumous) and to celebrate the indomitable spirit of the people of the region. A park was constructed and inaugurated on the occasion in the honour of Hav Abdul Majid, KC (Posthumous) by GOC, Ace of Spades Division.
The park stands as a tribute to the brave people of Poonch and serves as a symbol of unity, remembrance and community engagement. A memorial stone dedicated to Hav Abdul Majid, KC (Posthumous) a native of Ajote village and a gallant soldier who laid down his life in the service of the nation was also unveiled during the event.
The memorial seeks to immortalise his courage and inspire future generations. To promote local culture and heritage, the “Nishaan-e-Poonch” souvenir shop was inaugurated.
The initiative aims to showcase local handicrafts, preserve regional identity and further strengthen the Civil-Military connect. As part of youth engagement, a Drawing Competition was organised for students from nearby schools. The children enthusiastically expressed their patriotism and creativity through artworks based on themes of bravery, national pride and peace.
The event witnessed the gracious presence of Shri Vikas Kundal, Deputy Commissioner and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch along with other civil dignitaries and residents of Ajote.
Their participation reflected the strong synergy between the civil administration and the Indian Army. These initiatives reaffirm the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to honouring bravehearts, empowering border communities and fostering enduring peace through Operation Sadbhawna.
