Early Times Report
Jammu, May 02- Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu BL Bhat today granted bail to Farooq Iqbal Quazi, allegedly involved in a case of allotment of state land measuring 219 kanals fraudulently and dishonestly.
After hearing Advocate Vishal Kapur appearing for the petitioner/accused and CPO for the Vigilance Organization, the Special Judge observed that the petitioner had been admitted interim bail by High Court in terms of order January 30, 2007. The interim bail was for a period of one month giving the accused the liberty to approach the competent court to seek regular bail however, petitioner does not appear to have sought bail from the Court. The occurrence is alleged to have taken place in the year 2006. Admittedly petitioner was not a revenue officer of such rank who was vested with authority to attest a mutation. But role has been ascribed to him in the alleged transactions is the matter for determination at the trial and the petitioner/accused had associated with the investigation for three years. With these observations, the Court granted bail to the petitioner subject to furnishing surety and personal bond to the tune of Rs 25000 each.
The petitioner/accused Farooq Iqbal Quazi who surrendered in the Court today was involved in a case FIR 28/2006 for offence u/s 420/467/468/471/120-B RPC and 5(1) (d) r/w section 5(2) PC Act Svt 2006 registered at Police station Vigilance Organization Jammu. As a sequel to an information alleging fraudulent and dishonest allotment of state land measuring 219 kanals and one maral failing under survey No 62 and 63 Min at Patwar Halqa Deeli by the then Tehsildar Jammu in connivance with other officials and the land mafia, the Vigilance Organization conducted a surprise raid on the house of the petitioner and other accused and recovered some incriminating documents from the residence of the petitioner the then Patawri Halqa Deeli. After detailed investigation the Vigilance Organization presented charge sheet against three accused namely Shanti Saroop Gupta then Tehsildar Jammu, Baldev Singh resident of Kunjwani Jammu and the petitioner. Sanction for prosecution in respect of petitioner was also obtained as he reportedly was the only surviving official at present.
