| HC suspends sentence against then GMT Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 2- Suspending the conviction and sentence of AR Sani the then GMT Kashmir, Justice Mansoor Ahmed Mir of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Jammu Wing ordered that the appellant be released on bail provided he furnishes the bail bond to the tune of rupees two lakhs with one surety of the like amount. The Special Judge Anti Corruption had convicted and sentenced the appellant to one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh. While suspending the conviction and sentence, the High Court observed that keeping in view the averments contained in the memo of appeal and the decision made by the Trial Court r/w facts that the appellant is more than 70 years of age, Court deem it proper to suspend the conviction and sentence till further orders. The convict filed a criminal appeal in the state High Court through Advocate PN Raina seeking quashment of the judgment of Trial Court on various grounds. Justice Mansoor Ahmed Mir, after hearing the Advocate PN Raina appearing for the petitioner, admitted the appeal and issued notice to respondents and also Navneet Dubey counsel for the CBI returnable within three weeks.
