| Zojila pass opens | | | Early Times Report Kargil, May 1: Zojila Pass, the life line of people of Ladakh, was declared open for traffic today by General Officer Commanding, 15 Corps, in an inaugural ceremony organized by Border Roads Organization. Present on the occasion were the General Officers Commanding 8 Mountain Division and Kilo Force, the Chief Engineers of Project Himank, Beacon and 31 Zone , the Brigade Commander of 56 Mountain Brigade and various other civilian dignitaries to include the SSP Kargil and SDM Dras. In an address to the gathering, the GOC 15 Corps highlighted the commitment and hard work put in by the labours, men and officers of the Border Roads Organisation of Projects Himank and Beacon and appreciated their devotion despite odds of harsh weather and terrain. He also mentioned that “I did notice a number of dangerous stretches enroute to Zojila Pass and this dedication of the men is laudable”. He further added that “with the opening of the pass, convoys of the army and CRPF can start plying alongwith commencement of essential commodities supply for Kargil and Leh. The timely opening will also facilitate for smooth conduct of elections”. Later on, the GOC 15 Corps also flagged off the first Army convoy of the season from Zojila Pass towards Leh. In appreciation towards the efforts put in by the Border Roads Organisation, the GOC 15 Corps and the GOC 8 Mountain Division gave away tokens of appreciation to the personnel and asked them to keep up the good work.
