UDHAMPUR, Aug 2: In a heartbreaking incident that has left the entire region in mourning, Rajendra Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Ramnagar, and his young son lost their lives in a devastating landslide in the Salukh Ikhatar Nala area of Reasi district late Friday night.
The tragic event occurred while SDM Rajendra Singh was returning to his native village Pattiyan from Dharamadi in a Bolero vehicle. Accompanying him were his wife, cousin, and cousin's wife. As the vehicle passed through the mountainous stretch, a sudden landslide triggered by heavy rains sent massive boulders and debris crashing down, directly striking the vehicle and reducing it to rubble.
Rajendra Singh and his son died on the spot, while the other passengers sustained critical injuries. Locals, along with police teams, rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the injured, who were first taken to a nearby medical facility and later referred to District Hospital Reasi for advanced treatment.
Rajendra Singh was a 2011-batch JKAS officer, known widely for his honesty, dedication, and humble nature. His untimely demise has sent shockwaves through both the administrative ranks and the general public, with many expressing deep grief and disbelief over the sudden loss.
His cremation, along with his son's, was held at his native village amid an outpouring of sorrow. The entire atmosphere was heavy with grief as family members broke down, and residents from across the region gathered to pay their last respects.
Several top bureaucrats, colleagues, and political leaders, including BJP leader Ravinder Raina, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and support during this hour of unimaginable loss.
Rajendra Singh Rana was not just a government officer-he was a symbol of integrity and commitment. As SDM of Ramnagar, he earned widespread respect for his transparent working style, people-first attitude, and tireless dedication to public service. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt across the district and beyond.
