Early Times Report LUCKNOW, Aug 3: Over the past eight years, the Yogi government has placed women's safety at the forefront of its governance agenda, transforming the state's security framework through Mission Shakti. Launched to ensure the protection and empowerment of women, Mission Shakti has not only instilled a strong sense of security among women, but has also integrated them into the social mainstream, enabling self-reliance and independence. A major highlight of the initiative is the establishment of Pink Booths, deployment of women beat constables, enhanced CCTV surveillance, and the strengthening of the 1090 Women Helpline. These steps have collectively built a new sense of trust across the state regarding women's safety. The contrast with the pre-2017 situation is stark. Back then, Uttar Pradesh was often ranked at the top in cases of crimes against women. Reports of harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, and even murders were frequent, creating an atmosphere of fear where parents hesitated to allow their daughters to move alone outside. Upon taking charge in 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath initiated decisive measures under the motto "Empowered Women, Empowered Society." His administration prioritized women's safety as a pillar of governance. As a result, Uttar Pradesh has drawn a new benchmark in women's security, emerging as a model for other states. Today, with extensive CCTV coverage, dedicated women's help desks, special Pink Patrol units, stringent legal action, and wide-ranging awareness campaigns, the state has significantly curbed crimes against women. Uttar Pradesh has maintained the top position nationally in both reducing women-related crimes and ensuring speedy resolution of cases. The Yogi Adityanath government has intensified its crackdown on harassment through the statewide Anti-Romeo Squad, conducting over 1.08 crore checks across Uttar Pradesh. As a result, legal action has been taken against 32,291 individuals, 24,009 cases have been registered, and more than 1.47 crore people have been sensitized through awareness campaigns. Across the state, 8,381 women police beats have been formed, and 19,839 women officers have been deployed. Under Mission Shakti, 3,93,442 beat visits were conducted, resolving 3,82,789 complaints. Police reached out to 2,73,644 women victims of crimes, providing assistance to more than 2,40,305 and ensuring legal proceedings in over 3,61,001 cases. The police also checked nearly 66,889 shops and locations, seizing objectionable material and acting against 748 people. Under "Operation Girls," 2,597 cybercrime complaints were received, out of which 2,407 were resolved. Pink Booths have helped women feel safe even at night, while women police response teams (PRVs) are ensuring girls return home securely. The Women and Child Safety Organization (WCSO) has registered 26,61,537 complaints, resolving more than 26,46,191 of them. Awareness campaigns were conducted in villages and panchayats, distributing 3,87,800 pamphlets and sharing over 11,28,763 digital copies. Social media campaigns under Mission Shakti have reached more than 37,70,800 people.
