109 modified vehicles seized, court orders conditional | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 3: In a move aimed at improving driving environment and enhancing road safety in Distt Jammu, Traffic Police City Jammu seized 109 modified vehicles during a special drive launched against such vehicles plying in the District. The 5 day long special drive which began on 30th July 2025 led to the seizure of numerous modified vehicles including Rubicons, Scorpios, Thars, Boleros etc. Under Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act, any unauthorized alteration or modification of a vehicle, especially those which deviate from specifications mentioned in the Registration Certificate, is a punishable offence. The growing trend of vehicle modifications not only violates these legal provisions but also contributes to increased road hazards. Violations found in these vehicles include Tyers, Pressure Horns, Metallic Bumpers, Tinted/ Reflective Window Films, High Intensity Halogen Lights, Roof Rail Spoilers and other unapproved accessories. Such illegal modifications compromise the balance and safety of the vehicle, making it prone to accidents thereby endangering the lives of both occupants as well as pedestrians. The Court of Distt Mobile Magistrate Jammu also seems to have taken a serious view of such gross violations which is evident from the fact that the seized modified vehicles are being released only on the condition that the accessories used for such modifications shall be removed and deposited in TPL Malkhana before the vehicle is handed over back to the owner. The general public is strongly advised to refrain from undertaking any unauthorized alterations to their vehicles. Owners found in violation will face strict legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act. The action against such violations shall continue in days and months to come.
