Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 4: To mark the occasion of Bone and Joint Day On 4th August 2025, the Department of Orthopaedics, ASCOMS & Hospital, Sidhra, Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Orthopaedic Association, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme focused on the theme "Old is Gold - 360° Care for the Elderly." The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS & Hospital, Sidhra, Jammu. The programme commenced with a solemn lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolising the illumination of knowledge and the medical fraternity's commitment to geriatric well-being. Dr. Pavan Malhotra, in his keynote remarks, commended the Department of Orthopaedics for its proactive academic and community-oriented initiatives. He emphasized the vital importance of addressing geriatric bone health through early screening, patient education, and the integration of multidisciplinary strategies in clinical care. He further reiterated the institution's vision of aligning medical education with evolving healthcare needs and population trends, especially those concerning the ageing demographic. The CME session featured engaging academic presentations by esteemed faculty members. Prof. Dr. Rajesh K. Gupta, Professor & Head, Department of Orthopaedics and Past president, Jammu and kashmir Orthopaedics Association (JKOA) delivered an in-depth lecture on Osteoporosis, drawing attention to its silent progression, diagnostic complexities, and the necessity of early detection and treatment. Dr. Simranpreet Singh shared his insights on Fragility Fractures, detailing their prevalence in the elderly and the imperative for structured post-fracture care protocols. Dr. Shafiq Hackla addressed the topic of Fall Prevention, underscoring evidence-based strategies such as strength training, home safety modifications, and the role of caregiver awareness in mitigating fall risk among seniors. The CME was well-attended by faculty members, postgraduate students, interns, MBBS Students and allied healthcare professionals, who actively engaged in the discussions. The programme successfully reinforced the significance of comprehensive musculoskeletal care for the elderly and promoted awareness on issues often neglected in routine clinical practice. Through this academic endeavour, ASCOMS reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, public health education, and age-sensitive care. The institution continues to take the lead in championing initiatives that support healthier, safer ageing for the community at large.
