GDCW Kathua organizes series of patriotic events to celebrate 79th I-Day | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Aug 5: Government Degree College for Women, Kathua, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great patriotic fervor by organizing a series of engaging and meaningful activities from 1st to 5th August 2025. Under the patronage of the college Principal, Dr. Savi Behl, the events aimed to foster national pride, creativity, and awareness among students through active participation in cultural and educational programs. The celebrations commenced on 1st August with a Poster Making Competition on the theme "Unsung Heroes of Indian Freedom Movement." A total of 12 enthusiastic volunteers showcased their artistic talents and highlighted the sacrifices of lesser-known freedom fighters. Nidhi Salgotra secured the first position, followed by Miss Harshika in second place and Tamana Sangwal in third. On 2nd August, a vibrant National Anthem Singing Competition was held, in which 24 students from different semesters participated. The competition had two categories-group and solo singing. In group singing, Ritu and her group bagged the first position, Radhika and group stood second, while Emani and group secured third place. In solo singing, Radhika stood first, Asima second, and Vaishali third for their soulful performances. Continuing the patriotic spirit, an Essay Writing Competition was organized on 4th August on the theme "Role of Education in Promoting Peace and National Unity." Twenty students participated and presented insightful essays. Sushma (Semester III) and Emani Sharia (Semester I) jointly secured the first position, while Taniya (Semester III) and Ranju Kumari (Semester III) secured the second and third positions respectively. The grand finale of the celebration was held on 5th August in the form of a Seminar on "Role of J&K Youth in Achieving Viksit Bharat @2047." Ten students delivered impactful and thought-provoking presentations focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, education, civic engagement, and social responsibility as essential drivers of national development. Bhoomi Sharma of Semester III won the first position, Lakshmi Devi of Semester V came second, and Neeta Devi of Semester V secured third place.
