Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 5: As part of the ongoing Independence Day fortnight celebrations, Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu, organized an essay writing competition on the theme Role of Education in Promoting Peace. The event was aimed at encouraging students to reflect upon the transformative power of education in shaping a peaceful and harmonious society. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various streams, who highlighted how education fosters critical thinking, empathy, tolerance, and a deeper understanding of global citizenship. The essays emphasized the role of schools and higher education institutions in promoting non-violence, conflict resolution, and sustainable development through inclusive learning. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh appreciated the participants for their insightful ideas and encouraged them to be ambassadors of peace in their communities. He noted that education is the most powerful weapon to bring lasting peace and harmony in the world. In continuation of the celebration, a Swachhta Abhiyan was also conducted by the NSS unit of the college. Students and faculty members took an active part in the cleanliness drive, which covered various parts of the college campus. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about hygiene, sanitation, and environmental responsibility among youth. The program was organized under the guidance of Dr. Chetna Gupta (HOD English), Dr. Deepshikha Sharma (NSS PO), and Dr. Deepak Pathania (NSS PO). Among those present on the occasion included Dr. Reena Rani, Dr. Mohd Azam, Prof. Ashwani Kumar, Prof. Ashraf Nawaz, Prof. Shaji Khan, Dr. Sunal Sharma, Prof. Sanjeev Verma, Dr. Rajni Sharma, Dr. Roomi Rani, and others. |
