According to the reports the authorities on Sunday morning clamped curfew like restrictions in the old city including Nowhatta, Bohri-kadal, Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal, Kawdara, Bohri-Kadal and other adjoining areas. The restrictions, sources said, were so tough that no pedestrian or vehicular movement was allowed through these areas this morning. After few hours, hundreds of youth appeared near Khawajabazar Nowhatta and started to pelt stones at the police, CRPF and IRP, which was deployed throughout the city, the reports said, adding, three cops were injured in the stone-pelting. The stone-pelting youth also chased away a vehicle (JK02S-7404) which later rammed into a shop after the driver lost control over it. Four IRP personnel including a commandant identified as P Vachu were injured while the shop belonging to Perwaiz Ahmad Tantray son of Abdul Gani suffered damage. The other personnel have been identified as Gurdeep Singh, Mulik Raj and Subhash. Police and CRPF later opened few rounds in air and fired several teargas canisters to disperse the protesters. Seven protesters were injured. Later, the sources said, stone-pelting erupted at Kawadara and three cops were among eighteen persons injured in the clashes. Reports said that police opened few rounds in air apart from firing scores of tear smoke shells and baton charge to disperse the protesters. Twenty persons including two cops were injured. When contacted by PBI, SDPO Khaniyar, Wasim Qadri admitted imposition of restrictions through the area. “The restrictions were imposed to prevent damage to the public property following the inputs about the stone-pelting in the area,” he said.
