| NC has nothing to offer to the people: Beig | | | Early Times Report
Lolab, May 3-Questioning the credibility and sincerity of National Conference (NC) latest idiom in pleading for a dialogue with separatists to resolve the Kashmir problem, the senior PDP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig has said ‘the NC’s plea is a mere hogwash by a party that had virtually abandoned the State’s political and economic interests for allurement of power. Addressing a public meeting in Lulipora Lolab today, Beig said it was ironical that the NC had now cast off even the ritual lip service to the cause of autonomy, which it always projected as the cure for all ills of the Sate. “Their interests lie somewhere else” he said and added that the people know how NC allowed the autonomy proposal to be treated with contempt by the NDA Government at the Center of which NC was a partner and Omar Abdullah a minister. Former Deputy CM asserted that the rejection of autonomy resolution by the then NDA Government was not only a rebuff to NC but amounted to an insult to the State Legislature that had passed it with a huge majority. But just to save Omar’s job as a junior minister, NC to its eternal shame did not protest even meekly, he said. Beig pointed out that during the first three months of its arrival the State government had become noticeable only by its absence both from political and developmental fronts. He said that no new initiatives have been witnessed in any field and the government leaders survive in public either by their vilification of opposition or photo opportunities. Accusing NC government of hoodwinking people on developmental front Beig said the concerns of the people are very real and often acute. But the NC has ceased to articulate them effectively. Instead, they have looked for emotive issues on which to base their appeal, and have so far failed to find any. “They are just copying to good PDP has delivered on both political and developmental fronts and have nothing new to offer to the people of the state” Beig alleged.
