Jammu, Aug 7: As part of the nationwide Swachhta Pakhwara campaign, the students of MIER College of Education, Jammu, carried out a meaningful cleanliness drive on August 6, 2025, in Nougran village, located in the Bishnah block. Swachhta Pakhwara, an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, seeks to foster awareness around hygiene, sanitation, and sustainable waste management while encouraging active community involvement and a collective sense of responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings. The drive saw enthusiastic participation from 26 NSS volunteers from the School of Education (SOE) and School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH), guided by four faculty members. The programme began with an inaugural session at the Panchayat Ghar, where Mr. Surjeet Kumar, Sarpanch of Nougran, extended a warm welcome and commended the students for their civic initiative. Dr. Komal Sharma, NSS Programme Officer, briefed the participants on the objectives of the campaign and emphasized the shared responsibility of maintaining environmental hygiene. Post the inaugural session, students energetically took part in cleaning various parts of the village, including lanes, temple premises, and other community spaces. Holding placards with impactful Swachhta slogans, the volunteers raised awareness while actively engaging in the task. Equipped with brooms, gloves, and garbage bags-provided by the college-the students ensured proper segregation and disposal of collected waste. The initiative was met with heartfelt appreciation from the residents, who praised the efforts and encouraged similar future endeavors. For the students, the drive served as a valuable experiential learning opportunity, enabling them to engage directly with the community and contribute to the greater good. This initiative reflected MIER College’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility, environmental consciousness, and social engagement. The campaign reaffirmed the vital role of educational institutions in community development and nation-building. |
