Pouni, Aug 7: In a spirited celebration of environmental stewardship, the NSS and NCORD units of Government Degree College Pouni, collaboration with Army Ex-Servicemen and the Forest Department, organized a vibrant Plantation Drive on campus today, i.e., August 6, 2025. The initiative aimed to foster ecological awareness and promote sustainable practices among students and the local community. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff, who came together to plant a diverse array of saplings including Neem, Peepal, Gulmohar, and fruit-bearing trees. The drive was administered by Prof. Bishan Das, NSS PO and Dr. Mohit Kumar Anand, NCORD PO in coordination with Prof. Beant Sing, HOD Punjabi and inaugurated with ceremonial planting by faculty members, Forest Department officials, and respected Army veterans, symbolizing a united front for environmental protection. The presence of Army Ex-Servicemen added a sense of discipline and civic pride to the occasion, while the Forest Department provided technical guidance and saplings. NSS volunteers and NCORD members actively participated, showcasing their commitment to community service and drug-free living. Short talks and interactive sessions were held to educate participants on the ecological benefits of afforestation and the role of youth in combating climate change. The plantation drive served as a metaphor for growth, resilience, and collective responsibility—values shared by the academic, defense, and environmental communities. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of GDC Pouni emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing a sense of environmental ethics and civic duty among students. “Planting a tree is planting hope,” he remarked, “and today, we’ve planted not just saplings, but a vision for a greener tomorrow.”
