Empowering Tribals | | | While addressing the National Tribal Festival at Gurez recently, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the priceless tribal culture is being preserved and their ancient glory and dignity is being restored. The Lieutenant Governor lauded the immense contribution of the Tribal community to cultural diversity of the country. Since the day Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister in 2014 from that day the government has focussed on empowering the tribal community and transforming their lives. “Decades of injustice against tribals in Jammu and Kashmir ended on August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was abrogated and various transformative initiatives were taken to uplift the members of the tribal communities. The scrapping of Article 370 marked a watershed moment for J&K. It was a bold step that finally extended constitutional rights and welfare schemes to the tribals of the region, who had long been denied the benefits enjoyed by their counterparts in the rest of the country. As Lieutenant Governor Sinha rightly pointed out, the end of Article 370 was not just a political act—it was a moral course correction that gave tribal communities their rightful place in the developmental framework of India. Since then, several transformative initiatives have been rolled out. These include the Forest Rights Act, which ensures that tribal people can claim legal rights over forest land and resources—a lifeline for many. Additionally, the establishment of Eklavya Model Residential Schools, scholarships for tribal students, healthcare outreach programs, and skill development initiatives have helped bring real change on the ground. In Jammu and Kashmir, the UT administration has intensified efforts to provide housing, health cover under Ayushman Bharat, and livelihood opportunities to tribal families living in remote and inaccessible areas. Today, the tribal voice is not just being heard it is being amplified. Their stories of resilience, harmony with nature, and deep-rooted wisdom are being woven into the broader narrative of India’s progress. As the nation marches ahead with the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” the tribal communities stand not at the periphery but at the center of this transformative mission. Preserving tribal culture and restoring their dignity is not a one-time gesture—it is a continuous process that demands empathy, policy support, and sustained engagement. In that light, the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the dedication of the UT administration in J&K offer a beacon of hope for a future where every tribal life is empowered, and every tribal voice matters. |
