| 20 teachers’ journey to schools cut short | | Kishtwar bus crash claims 30 lives, 5 critically injured | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, May 3: After weekend break students normally hate to turn up at school on Monday morning, but Government Higher Secondary School, Parmar, nearly six kilometers from here, the scene was not quite like this. The school was buzzing with activity, students were pouring in and the people had just opened the class rooms. The only wait was for teachers. Unfortunately they did not turn up as the vehicle they were traveling crashed into a gorge killing 30 commuters -20 of them were teachers and 10 posted at Parmar school alone leaving the Principal to battle for life. Police confirmed at least 30 persons dead and five other injured, most of them critically, in a ghastly bus accident off Kishtwar. The Mini-bus bearing registration number JK-08 1075 was on way to Parmar from Kishtwar when it met with an accident at Bhaderkote at around 8:30 AM. A pall of gloom descended the mountainous Kishtwar town and its adjoining villages as the in the news of accident broke out. The news of road accident spread like wild fire in the town and its adjoining areas and people rushed to the accident site, about 6 kilometers from the main town. On motor-cycles, four wheelers and every thing they found, people were seen moving in large numbers towards Bandarkote, where the tragedy struck. At District hospital, people in large number, including women, were waiting for the bodies to arrive. For around one hour no body knew who was on the ill fated vehicle but everyone was apprehending that being Monday most of the victims would be government employees. Then bodies started pouring in. Loaded on trucks and tippers, the bodies were blood soaked and even some had disfigured faces. The atmosphere in the hospital suddenly changed. The silence suddenly disappeared and there was only hue and cry in air. Doctors rushed and started checking the pulse of the victims. But none of them were alive. Kishtawar district is notorious for the accidents and the reason is attributed to the bad condition of rounds and unchecked overloading in the private buses. The dead have been identified as Aziz Ahmed son of Mohammad Sultan, Shakeel Nawaz son of Abdul Kabir Sheikh, Karan Chand son of Jenat Ram, Sathia Begium wife of Aziz Ahmed, Rayees Ahmed son of Bashir Ahmed, Naseer Ahmed son of Abdul Akbar, Lalida wife of Bankilal, Parveena Begum wife of Mushtaq Ahmed, Anil Kumar son of sufden, Su Kumar son of Gusaw Ram, Pinky wife of Ashok Sharma, Amina Begum wife of Shabir Ahmed of Kuchan, Kuldeep Singh son of Sumnath of Sarthal , Giyalal son of Bal Chand, Kanta Devi wife of Chawalal Krishan, Anil Kumar son of Chawa Ram, Nitu wife of Rakesh, Sityaji wife of Juwa Lal , Parveena daughter of Shabir Ahmed Tak, Shugufta Parveen wife of Ghulam Mohid-u-din, Ruksana wife of Yasir Ahmed , Suresh Kumar son of Maulan Kumar, Pushpa Devi wife of Satpal ,Zakir Hussain son of Ghulam Mohammad and Serina Devi wife of Subash, all locals. Besides, sources said, Ghulam Mohammad son of Rehman Bhat of Kulgam in South Kashmir, Sunil Kumar son of Seva Ram and Rajesh Kumar son of Sunil Kumar, both from Gurdsapur Punjab were also among the deceased. The critically injured have been identifies as Tehsin Ahmed son of Abdul Latief of Bindra Ban, Khalid Aziz son of Aziz Mohammad of Palmar, Azad Ahmed son of Bhar Bhagwan, Jagdish Raj son of J.R.Ariyan of Pochhal and Aalamgir son of Bashir Ahmed of Cherhar Kishtwar were air lifted to the Government Medical College Jammu for specialized medical treatment.
