J&K’s Railway Story
8/11/2025 11:01:56 PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently sanctioned another Vande Bharat train to link holy towns of Katra and Amritsar, under PM Modi’s rule the railways infrastructure, has witnessed unprecedented growth in Jammu and Kashmir over the past 11 years.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha thanked PM Modi for sanctioning a Vande Bharat train to link the holy towns of Katra and Amritsar.
The LG Sinha wrote on X : “Grateful to PM Narendra Modi for flagging off Vande Bharat Train between Amritsar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Station. J&K’s transport infrastructure, particularly in railways, has witnessed unprecedented growth under the leadership of PM. New Vande Bharat Train will ensure ease of travel for devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi and spur the growth momentum of the local economy.”
The journey between Katra, the gateway to the revered shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi, and Amritsar, home to the Golden Temple, is more than just a train ride. It is a spiritual corridor linking two of the most significant pilgrimage sites in North India. Millions of devotees visit these shrines every year, and the new high-speed, state-of-the-art train will make this journey faster, more comfortable, and more reliable. This not only enhances the pilgrim experience but also opens new avenues for tourism-related industries, including hospitality, transport services, and local handicrafts.
Railway development in Jammu and Kashmir has long been a challenge due to the region’s unique terrain and weather conditions. Yet, over the last decade, there has been unprecedented progress—bridges over deep gorges, tunnels through the Pir Panjal range, and modern stations equipped with world-class amenities have become a reality. The Vande Bharat addition is a continuation of this momentum, symbolizing the Centre’s commitment to integrating J&K with the rest of the country in both physical and economic terms.
The Vande Bharat Express represents India’s aspirations in modern train travel—speed, efficiency, comfort, and sustainability. Its introduction in the region is a signal to residents and visitors alike that Jammu and Kashmir is no longer on the periphery of development.
In an era where infrastructure is rightly seen as the backbone of economic progress, the Katra–Amritsar Vande Bharat train stands as both a symbol and a practical step forward. It is a reminder that connectivity is not just about moving people from one place to another—it is about moving communities, economies, and aspirations forward.
Under PM Modi’s vision and LG Manoj Sinha’s stewardship, Jammu and Kashmir’s railway story is steadily becoming one of India’s most inspiring development narratives.
