Border region leader turns change-maker | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Aug 11: Ms. Samreen Khan, Former Sarpanch of Manjakote, Rajouri (Jammu & Kashmir), delivered a keynote address at the Social Leadership Development Program (SLDP) organised by MIT World Peace University, Pune, on the theme Sustainable Urbanisation and Green Neighbourhoods. Sharing her leadership journey in one of India’s most challenging hilly, border regions, Ms. Khan outlined initiatives from her tenure — building durable roads with effective drainage in landslide-prone areas, installing hand pumps to ensure clean drinking water in remote villages, and deploying solar street lighting to improve safety while cutting carbon emissions. She urged students to embrace active roles in governance, drive sustainable infrastructure development, and champion environmental protection, stressing that community involvement is key to lasting progress. The session received enthusiastic response from students and faculty, who lauded her as an example of how grassroots leadership can influence national development priorities and inspire a greener, more inclusive future. |
