Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 12: As part of its Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) initiative, the School of Education (Special Education), MIER College of Education, conducted an awareness programme on "Prevention from Disability through Nutrition" on 6th August 2025 in Village Nowgran. The event aimed to educate the rural community about the role of proper nutrition in preventing disabilities and promoting overall well-being.
The programme began with a rally by B.Ed. Special Education students, who carried placards and raised slogans to promote healthy eating practices. This outreach created strong engagement with villagers, sparking conversations on nutrition and disability prevention.
In the main session, Ms. Shweta, B.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability) student, highlighted how prenatal deficiencies like inadequate folic acid can cause neural tube defects, and postnatal malnutrition can lead to anemia, stunting, and cognitive delays. She also addressed micronutrient deficiencies such as vitamin A and iodine, emphasizing affordable, locally sourced dietary solutions, hygiene, and community-driven awareness.
Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal, MIER College of Education (Autonomous), lauded the efforts, stating, "True education goes beyond the classroom. When we empower communities with knowledge about nutrition and health, we create a foundation for a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive society."
The session saw active participation from villagers, parents, and community leaders. Guided by Dr. Nishta Rana, Head SoE and program incharge: Dr. Raj Pawan, Associate Professor, Dr. C. R. Jangra, Assistant Professor & Mrs. Anuradha Thakur, Assistant Professor, the initiative reinforced the college's commitment to grassroots health promotion, empowering communities with practical strategies for disability prevention through nutrition.
