Vikalp and NSS-SMVDU conduct awareness drive | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 12: Vikalp, a student-led initiative at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra, in collaboration with NSS-SMVDU, organised an extensive outreach programme last Saturday to promote awareness about the reopening of Vikalp after the summer break. The initiative aimed to inform the local community about the educational opportunities offered to underprivileged children. A total of 13 volunteers - twelve from Vikalp and one from NSS - began the campaign at 9:30 a.m., assembling at the Medical Aid Centre before splitting into six groups to cover the University's surrounding areas. The teams conducted door-to-door visits, interacting with residents to highlight the importance of education and the role of Vikalp in providing equal opportunities. The drive generated a positive response, with parents expressing keen interest in enrolling their children. Excited children in the locality, particularly in areas from Kotla to nearby colonies, welcomed the news of reopening. Volunteers also visited construction sites within the University premises and Narayana Hospital to engage with workers' families. The campaign concluded at 1:00 p.m., with all groups reconvening briefly before dispersing. Despite the intense heat, the drive was carried out smoothly, and refreshments were provided to the participants. Vikalp expresses its gratitude to the Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, Prof. Pragati Kumar and the NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr. Rajiv Kumar for their administrative support and assistance in making the campaign a success. |
