| Kishtwar bus mishap widely mourned, enquiry demanded | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 4- The tragic bus accident at Banderkote in Kishtwar district killing 30 people and causing injuries to several others has been widely mourned. While expressing shock and grief over the accident several political leaders and social organizations have demanded enquiry to find out the causes of mishap and ex-gratia relief to the kins of the deceased persons and free medical treatment to the injured. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the party President Mehbooba Mufti have expressed shock and grief over the loss of scores of precious lives in a tragic road mishap near Kishtwar today. In a statement, PDP leaders said the treacherous roads in the mountainous districts of Doda and Kishtwar have become a death-trap for the unsuspecting commuters, and every now and then such mishaps consume precious lives in the area. The PDP leaders while expressing heartfelt sympathies with the families of the victims of today’s mishap have called for immediate relief for the next of the kin. Senior PDP leaders Muzaffar Hussain Baig and Tariq Hameed Karra have also expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives in the Kishtwar road mishap. PDP eader Professor Shohab Inayat Malik while expressing shock over the tragic accident has demanded enquiry to find out the causes of mishaps and ex-gratia relief to the kins of the deceased persons as also to the injured. In a statement Prof Malik said that the accident has exposed the hollow slogans of coalition government of providing best road connectivity to the people living in the far off areas. He expressed serious concern over the frequency of road mishaps in the State especially in Kishtwar district claiming precious human lives and asked the authorities especially traffic department to take adequate and stringent measures to check the recurrence of road accidents. He further asked the authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured for their speedy recovery and ex-gratia relief to the next kith and kin of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident. Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo MLA Kishtwar has expressed shock and grief over tragic mishap in Kishtwar In a statement, issued here today, Kitchloo said that ‘the tragic road accident has shocked him and he shares the pain of the family members, who lost their near ones in the unfortunate accident’. National Conference leader impressed upon the state government to provide immediate relief to the families of the deceased and free medicare facilities to the injured passengers. Expressing concern over the frequency of road mishaps in the district he impressed upon the state government and the Traffic Department to take adequate and stringent measures to check the recurrence of road accidents and demanded construction of steel parfaits to avoid such accidents. Meanwhile, National Conference leaders from Jammu province in a statement issued here today have also expressed shock over the loss of innocent lives in the tragic bus accident. The party leaders conveyed their deep heart felt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the incurred ones. The NC leaders urged upon the state government to provide ex-gratia relief to the next kith and kin of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident and specialized medical treatment to the injured ones. The Education Department also held a condolence meeting to mourn the death of several innocent persons in a tragic bus accident at Kishtwar. Secretary, Education, G. A. Peer and other senior officers of the department participated in the meeting. Chairman Refugee Welfare and Educational Society Siot Sunderbani Dr. Ram Chander Sharma has expressed deep shock over the road accident in Kishtwar today in which 27 precious lives were lost and many injured. Every year hundreds of people are killed in road accidents in J&K and the major cause is the old and worn out vehicles plying on the roads with the active connivance of the transport authorities and the untrained drivers also, he alleged. The prevailing corruption in the Regional Transport Office and the traffic police department is also responsible for such frequent road mishaps, Sharma said and demanded establishment of Trauma Hospital in Sunderbani of Rajouri district. President Shai Federation Jammu Ashiq Hussain Khan while condemning the accident has urged upon the government to give Rs. 10 lakh compensation and a government job to kin of the deceased. He has conveyed people to take precautions and cautioned people to avoid traveling in over loaded vehicles. Expressing grief and condolence over the tragic bus mishap Tanveer Hussain Babzada, President J&K unit of Rashtriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party, has assailed the state government authorities for their failure in checking frequent road accidents on Doda-Kishtwar and Rajouri-Poonch routes. He expressed dismay how a minibus (matador) having approved sitting capacity of 10 passengers, could carry about 30 passengers, without being checked by the traffic department authorities. He also blamed the deplorable condition of roads on the area, responsible for frequent accidents and dereliction of duty by the traffic authorities in checking overloading. He demanded immediate relief to the victims and compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of the kins of the deceased. He also demanded improvement of the roads making these motor worthy for all weathers as well as cancellation of route permits of worn out vehicles. Expressing his shock and grief over the accident, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party president and MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia has demanded inquiry to find out the causes of mishaps and ex-gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased persons and the injured. He has also expressed serious concern over the frequency of road mishaps in the State especially in Kishtwar district claiming precious human lives and blamed the coalition government for the recurring mishaps. Sate secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sayeed Asgar Ali MLC and senior party leader Thakur Balbir Singh have blamed State Government for the Kishtwar mishap and demanded action against officers of the Traffic Police for their failure to keep a check on over-loading and playing of outdated passenger vehicle in the mountainous district of Kishtwar. Shifting all blames on the government for today’s accident, Sayed Asgar Ali said that today’s accident has exposed the hollow slogans of coalition government of providing best road connectivity to the people living in the far off areas. He said that government had earlier promise provided to start SRTC service in this belt but nothing has been done so far. He said that today’s accident was result of the casual approach being adopted by the coalition regime in solving burning problems of the common masses. Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party in a working committee meeting held at Srinagar with Prof Bhim Singh in chair has expressed great shock over the tragic bus accident in Kishtwar and accused the state administration of its failure to discipline state transport movement particularly in erstwhile Doda District. Prof. Singh said that the outdated vehicles carrying clearance certificates by bribing the transport authorities overloading the passengers and drivers with inadequate license are the main cause of the road accidents. He demanded the immediate resignation of the Transport Minister and a compensation of Rs.10 lakhs to each victim without delay. Director School Education, Jammu Mtr. Zahida Khan and Chief Education Officer, Jammu Mr. Suresh Sharma have expressed shock and grief over the loss of precious human lives in a tragic road accident in Kishtwar today where 30 persons were killed and five injured critically. A condolence meeting was held in the office chamber of Director School Education, Jammu to mourn the death of teachers and others who died in the accident. In her condolence message, Mrs. Khan expressed sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the injured. She said that most of expired teachers were working in Government Higher Secondary School, Palmar and its adjoining schools of Kundgwari and Chewar of Kishtwar district. A 2-minute silence was also observed to pray for the peace of departed souls. Among others, Joint Director, Personnel Officer, Deputy Director Planning and non-teaching staff members were present on the occasion.
