| Nirmal holds government responsible for mishap | | | Early Times Report Jammu, MAY 4- A delegation of BJP led by State President Ashok Khajuria, accompanied by MLA Ch. Sukhnandan, party leader Ashwani Bali and others visited GMC to enquire about the treatment being given to the victims of the road accident that occurred at Bhandarkott of Kishtwar district today. The BJP Chief enquired about the well being of the injured persons and stressed upon the doctors attending on them to ensure that no stone is left unturned in their treatment. He assured the victims that BJP will take up their cause with the government to see that they receive adequate compensation and free medical treatment of the best quality. He expressed great shock over the loss of lives of 28 passengers in the accident. Ashok Khajuria said that the present government is totally immune to the plight and sufferings of the people of far-flung areas. They do not have the elementary medical facilities, what to talk of adequate medical facilities. The people in their hour of suffering have to somehow make it to Jammu city to avail of the ordinary medical facilities. The common occurrence of road accidents in the far-flung and hilly areas is due to the poor and dilapidated roads, no maintenance and non existence of the traffic management on the part of traffic department. Citing the example of road accident at Bhandarkott, he said that how could a vehicle having capacity for 16 passengers carry more than 32 passengers unhindered by the traffic police. Khajuria demanded that government must pay adequate compensation to the next of the kin of the victims of the accident and take stern action against the lax traffic staff stationed in the area. Member BJP National Executive and former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh while expressing grief and sorrow over the death of over two dozens passengers and injuries to about half a dozen has squarely held the government responsible for this accident. Dr. Singh said it is not for the first time that such a mis-happening has occurred which claimed dozens of innocent lives. He said in the hilly and far flung areas of the Jammu province, accident occur very frequently and the government escapes from its responsibility by just giving lip service. Not even in a single case till now responsibility has been fixed on any one. Dr. Nirmal Singh said that accidents in hilly areas do occur very often due to poor road connectivity, overloading and plying of defective vehicles with the connivance of the traffic officials. He said in many cases, it has been noticed that those driving these vehicles do not have any experience and are without proper driving licenses. Such people enjoy patronage of the traffic authorities and play with the lives of innocent people. Dr. Nirmal Singh said a few days back in a road accident in Basohli four lives were lost and again this was due to the poor roads and lax traffic control and management by the traffic department. Dr. Nirmal Singh, who rushed to the emergency ward of GMC hospital at Jammu after getting the sad news of tragic accident, inquired about those shifted here in critical conditions and asked the doctors to provide every possible help to save the precious lives. He demanded immediate compensation to the tune of rupees five lakh for each killed and adequate financial aid for those injured besides their free treatment by the state government. Dr. Nirmal Singh expressed sympathy with the members of the bereaved families and also assured that he will endeavor to ensure adequate help and assistance.
