| PDP demands increase in J&K’s Hajj quota, | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 04 – Expressing dismay over the slashing of the State’s annual Hajj quota, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said being the only Muslim majority state in the country, the Government of India must proportionately increase Jammu and Kashmir’s Hajj quota to accommodate more pilgrims from the State. In a statement issued here today, a PDP spokesman said while the PDP had managed to get a Hajj quota of 10,000 to 12,000 during its three-year term in the Government between 2002 and 2005, the same has now been slashed by half bringing down the State’s Hajj quota to around 6,000 for the current year. He said as a member of the Parliament, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti used to personally pursue with the Prime Minister and the Minister of External Affairs the issue of J&K’s Hajj quota to accommodate more and more pilgrims from the State. He said of late the State Government is not pursuing the issue seriously resulting in marginal decline of our Hajj Quota. “The State and the Central Government must act immediately to get the State’s Hajj quota increased,” he said.
