Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 21: Golden's Day Care & Recreation Centre for Senior Citizens, Lower Roop Nagar, Jammu, celebrated Senior Citizens Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. The event featured cultural programmes, health awareness sessions, and interactive activities dedicated to the welfare, dignity, and engagement of senior citizens.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Sh. Sham Lal Sharma, Hon'ble MLA, Jammu North Constituency, who appreciated the efforts of Golden's Day Care Centre in providing care, respect, and a vibrant social space for the elderly. He emphasized the importance of community participation in ensuring the well-being of senior citizens and expressed his full support for the noble cause.
Addressing the gathering, Sham Lal Sharma urged the senior citizens to consider themselves as the cultural role models of society. He said that their life experiences, values, and traditions serve as a guiding light for younger generations. He stressed that it is the duty of elders to instill strong social and cultural values in the youth so that they grow into responsible citizens who respect traditions and uphold moral conduct. He further appealed to the elders to counsel and guide the younger generation to stay away from social evils such as drugs and other harmful habits, emphasizing that the blessings, guidance, and wisdom of senior citizens can play a decisive role in building a stronger, value-based, and progressive society.
Sharma also underlined the need to reduce the generation gap between the elderly and the youth through daily participation and interaction. He said that regular communication, cultural exchanges, and joint family activities can help bridge the gap, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen intergenerational bonding. He encouraged the younger generation to spend quality time with elders, learn from their experiences, and uphold the values that keep society rooted in tradition while moving towards progress.
He further emphasized that senior citizens should continue to remain active participants in social and community life, as their knowledge, wisdom, and involvement are invaluable for shaping a compassionate and responsible society. He said that their guidance not only strengthens families but also serves as a moral compass for the entire community.
On this occasion, several elderly members were felicitated for their lifelong contributions to society. The management of Golden's Day Care Centre, while addressing the programme, stated that "This day is dedicated to honouring our elders, who are the guiding light of our society. We remain committed to their happiness, dignity, and overall welfare." Prominent personalities including Sh. Raj Kumar Kohli, Sh. Tilak Raj Sharma, and Sh. Ramesh Magotra also addressed the gathering and shared their thoughts.
