LG Kavinder reaches Daman & Diu; reviews flagship infrastructure and development projects
8/21/2025 9:28:56 PM
DIU, Aug 21: The Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta along with First Lady Smt Bindu Gupta undertook a significant visit to the Union Territory of Daman and Diu today. The Lt Governor reviewed a series of flagship infrastructure and development projects that reflect the transformative vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On arrival at Diu, Kavinder Gupta and First Lady Bindu Gupta were warmly received by Praful Patel, Administrator of Daman, Diu & Dadra Nagar Haveli. Together, the two leaders carried out a comprehensive review of key projects designed to accelerate growth, strengthen public welfare and position the coastal Union Territory as an emerging hub for tourism and economic activity.
During the visit, the Lt Governor inspected the ongoing construction of affordable houses for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) at Ghoghla under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban. Each unit, with financial support of Rs 10.54 lakh, will provide secure housing to families under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) scheme, furthering the Prime Minister's vision of "Housing for All."
The Lt Governor also visited the site of the upcoming Government Higher Secondary School (Boys) near Vadlimata, equipped with modern hostel facilities at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crores. At Nagoa Beach, he reviewed the development of Tent City, where 40 luxury tents are being set up over 10,000 sq. mt. at a cost of Rs 1.21 crores, expected to significantly boost high-end tourism.
Later, the Lt Governor inspected the state-of-the-art Education Hub spread across 25 acres in the heart of Diu. The hub comprises Government College Diu, Polytechnic College Diu, and the Vadodara International Campus of IIIT, housing nearly 2,500 students. With an investment of Rs 200 crores, the facility represents a giant leap in educational infrastructure for the Union Territory.
The Lt Governor also reviewed the newly constructed 7 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant based on the modern Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) process, built at a cost of Rs 15 crores, and the under-construction Sewa Bhawan, which will accommodate multiple government departments at a project cost of Rs 23 crores.
The Lt Governor observed that these projects stand as a testament to the Modi Government's strong resolve towards inclusive growth and equitable development. He said that under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister, India's Union Territories are witnessing unprecedented transformation-be it in housing, education, tourism, digital infrastructure, or renewable energy. The Prime Minister's emphasis on "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas" continues to inspire a new developmental model that is reaching the last mile and empowering every section of society.
