Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 21: A large group of members of the Central Govt. Pensioners' Welfare Association, Jammu (CGPWA) visited the AIIMS, Vijaypur, 21 kms from here, and acquainted themselves with medical amenities created there. The Group was headed by its President, Kuldeep Khoda and included former top bureaucrats and other senior members of the Association.
The celebrated founding Executive Director & Chief Executive officer of AIIMS, Vijaypur, Dr Shakti Gupta apprised the visiting former senior civil servants in its detailed presentation the journey of six years since the PM Narinder Modi laid the foundation stone on 3rd February 2019 and said that the iconic healthcare and medical research institution has been ranked second after New Delhi among the 23 AIIMS in the country within one year of its inauguration that took place in February last year. Within just one year of launch of clinical services, it has secured the 7th position among Govt Medical Universities ranking in the survey conducted by Outlook Magazine in 2025.
Forty three buildings have been commissioned in a record time of three & half years despite the challenges of Crona which helped in emerging as a powerful national benchmark for establishment of a Medical Education, Research and Healthcare world class institution
Dr Shakti Gupta, a son of the soil, told the former bureaucrats that the motto of AIIMS, Vijaypur is 'Patient Care' which the group found to be a reality after seeing these on the ground. Many innovative services in this direction have been created include Indoor Navigation app, a structured Patient Care Manager & Rogi Sahayak Mitra System, E-cart for mobility support for patients with the campus and Swasthaya App for booking appointments and viewing diagnostics. Even those who come without appointments are not turned back through a dedicated AYUSH Screening Wing.
Equipped with latest medical equipment, the AIIMS Vijaypur is the first among the new AIIMS to create a full-fledged, high-end Transfusion Medicine Unit, Centre for Advanced Genomics and Precision Medicine with which there is no need for sending samples abroad for high-end genomic testing. This facility along with the Oncology unit offers chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immunotherapy bringing cancer care within the reach of thousands of patients who were forced to go out of J&K for treatment. Introduction of a Green Smart Waterless Lab- a first in the region, has elevated its diagnostics.
Talking about the future initiatives, Dr Shakti Gupta said that AIIMS Vijaypur is being developed as a 'Global Village', a centre where world class professionals from India & abroad could contribute and collaborate in Healthcare, Research, Medical Education and Skill Development. Establishment of Centres of Excellence in Ophthalmology, Cancer, Robotic Surgery, Dentistry and Telemedicine are being created. He also informed that he is in touch with specialists of Jammu working abroad, to persuade them to return and join AIIMS Vijaypur and serve their own people.
Kuldeep Khoda, Ashok Angurana, B R Sharma, Dr. Sudarshan Kumar, and K B Jandial who spoke on the occasion, complimented Dr Shakti Gupta, and his dedicated team for creating a world class Health Institution in a record time, at our doorsteps, minimizing the need to rush the patients to healthcare institutions outside Jammu. A request was also made for empaneling AIIMS Vijaypur with CGHS to enable the CGHS beneficiaries to avail these facilities cashless.
