District police Reasi foils drug smuggling bid

Reasi, Aug 21: In its continuous drive against drugs and crime, District Police Reasi achieved a major success today when a naka was laid by the Police Party of PP Ban Ganga at Balini Bridge to Ban Ganga Link Road.
During naka checking, two persons coming on foot from the Balini Bridge side towards Ban Ganga, who were conversing with each other, were stopped for questioning. On inquiry, they disclosed their identities as Badal Kumar S/O Dalip Kumar R/o Panjar, Tehsil Mongri, District Udhampur and Balwan Chand S/O Bodh Raj R/O Dubi Gali, Tehsil Mongri, District Udhampur.
On suspicion, both were subjected to personal search. From the possession of Badal Kumar, Police recovered one transparent poly pack containing 3.350 gms of heroin-like substance along with 03 mobile phones. From Balwan Chand, 04 mobile phones were recovered. On being questioned about the contraband and the possession of such a large number of mobile phones, both failed to give any satisfactory reply or proof of ownership of the recovered mobiles. It is pertinent to mention here that the total value of the seized mobile phones is approximately Rs 1 lakh and the same are suspected to be stolen property.
Accordingly, in this regard, a case FIR No. 239/2025 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation is underway to ascertain forward and backward linkages.
The whole operation was conducted under the leadership of SHO P/S Katra Insp. Khyatimaan Khajuria under the supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS and SP Katra Sh. Vipan Chandran-JKPS. SSP Reasi Sh. Paramvir Singh – JKPS reiterated that District Police Reasi remains committed to its mission of eradicating drug menace and crime from society and seeks the cooperation of the public in sharing information about such illegal activities to make the district drug-free and crime-free.
