| Research colloquium at MIER College of Education | | | Early Times report Jammu, May 5- The Centre for Educational Research, MIER College of Education organized a Research Colloquium on the theme “Culture, Instruction and Evaluation in Research: Issues and Perspectives”. Dr Rajeev Rattan Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Education, University of Jammu was the guest speaker on this occasion. Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER welcomed the guest speaker and in his speech, he stated that such research colloquia are regularly organized to expose the faculty members to new research areas so that they are motivated to conduct such research studies to improve their practices. Function was presided over by Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairman, MIER, while Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER was also present on the occasion. Dr. Rajeev Sharma highlighted that research can be promoted by creation of a research culture in our institutions. Educational institution should make substantial funding available for promoting the long –term capacity of the research community through investment in the research infrastructure, the research community, data development, information sharing and access. The academicians need to be encouraged by providing them with time and funds as needed and by flexibility in work load and work assignment. He reiterated that system should provide best inputs and the best processes to produce the best output and impact. Moreover, Research programs need to be evaluated on specific criteria of integration with long term research program; collaboration and cooperation in research effort; extramural support; dissemination, generation of new knowledge and changes in practice. However, Institutions of higher learning engaged in educational research should adopt more objective, more reliable and valid method of evaluation. During interactive session, most of the queries raised by faculty members were well responded by the guest professor. In his presidential remarks, Dr. Arun K. Gupta provided a holistic view of research culture and elaborated on various strategies for developing research environment in educational institution. Dr. D.R. Kapoor, Convener Research Committee presented the formal vote of thanks.
