‘45 ELECTRIC PROJECTs BY 2010’

National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, a Schedule “A” Enterprise of the Government of India which is executing the prestigious 45 MW Nimoo Bazgo (Alchi) Hydro Electric Power Project in the Ladakh Region participated in the Bharath Nirman Campaign held at Polo Ground, Leh. NHPC along with PDD and PDC jointly displayed information regarding the Power development programmes. NHPC engineers briefed the general public about the salient and technical features of the project. Also a Power Point presentation was displayed at the stall highlighting the milestones and proposal of the project and its benefits to the Ladakh region.
Sh. Amresh Kumar, Chief Engineer, NHPC briefed Sh. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Hon’ble Minister of Power, J&K about the progress and activities of the project. Sh. Amresh Kumar also addressed the public gathering regarding the developments of the Project and the future schemes of NHPC for the region. He said that the Project will be completed within stipulated time and added that local labour will be employed in the construction of the Project. Sh. Jora was informed that under the centrally sponsored scheme of Rajeev Gandhi Grameen Vidvutikaran Yojana(RGGVY) 62 villages in Ladakh would be electrified at the central assistance of Rs.66.93 crores. He said that in Leh district 35 villages would be electrified under the said scheme at a cost of Rs. 38.29 crores.
The Nimoo Bazgo (Alchi) Hydro Electric Project is schedule to be commissioned within 48 months (Nov 2010) with an estimated cost of Rs.611.01 Crores. The project would also provide a firm Power of 14MW in winter months to Leh district . The infrastructure works of the project are complete and the main works of the project will commence in Oct 2006.
There are five Mini and Micro hydel power houses in Leh district which are presently running almost in isolation, excepting Stakna Powerhouse and Igo-Mercellong as the micro hydel stations are located in remote villages of Nobra Block at Hunder and Sumoor village, the other micro hydel station is located in Leh block at Basago village. There are two mini hydel powerhouses in Leh District. They are 2X2 MW Stakna Hydel Powerhouse and 2X1.50 Igo-Mercellong Hydel Powerhouse both on Indus River.

There are 19 Diesel Generating stations presently running in the Leh district . Their capacity is ranging from 50 KVA to 750 KVA. These stations run during evening hours for 5-6 hours for lighting purposes of the consumers.
