| APMCC demands postponement of Hazratbal bye-elections | | lections coincide with Tulmula pilgrimage; conspiracy to sabotage Pandits pilgrimage | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 5- All Party Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) Chairman Vinod Pandit has asked the Election Commission of India for postponing or pre-pronging of the Hazratbal Assembly bye-elections as it coincides with the historic Tulmula pilgrimage of Kashmiri Pandits and would affect the pilgrimage due to heavy security bandobast and the boycott call of separatist of Valley. Terming the holding of bye-elections on May 30 as a conspiracy of the government to sabotage the historic Kheer Bhawani pilgrimage of Kashmiri Pandits where thousands participate, he said the government should have briefed the Election Commission about the Pandit pilgrimage so that the dates would have been changed. Warning the government, he said that the boycott call and holding of elections on May 30 may prove disastrous for the pilgrimage adding the government would squarely be responsible if anything happens to Pandits during the historic pilgrimage. Vinod said that while May 30 was the election day for Hazratbal bye-elections the Yagya at the Kheer Bhwani temple would also begin on the same day and Purna Ahuti would be on May 31 adding Pandits would also begin their yatra from Jammu on May 29 for the Tulmulla in Ganderbal area. Justifying his stand Vinod said that the entire Hazratbal constituency was the only route for reaching the Tulmulla shrine and the subsequent boycott call may lead to any untoward incident creating serious trouble for the government as well as visiting Kashmiri Pandits. He said the government knows fully well that thousands of Kashmiri Pandits visit the shrine on the day but the administrators chose to keep mum before the Election Commission which indicates the evil designs of some of the anti-social elements within the administration. Asking the state government to consult the Election Commission immediately in this regard, he said that if the life of Pandits was put in danger the entire responsibility would lie on the state government. He said APMCC would launch an agitation if the state government does not correct its wrong doings immediately by requesting the Election Commission to either pre-pone or postpone the election date.
