DGPC Jammu Strongly Condemns Doda Incident; Appeals for Vigilance, Public Awareness

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 23: The Vice President of the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu, S. Balvinder Singh, accompanied by General Secretary S. Surjit Singh and members S. Tejinder Singh, S. Harjit Singh, and S. Avtar Singh, addressed the media today to express their profound anguish and unequivocal condemnation of the deeply disturbing incident that took place day before yesterday in Paryot village, Doda.
According to reports, five individuals—masquerading in Sikh attire—entered the home of Smt. Usha Kumari under the false pretence of collecting donations for Punjab. Trusting their appearance and intent, the elderly lady generously offered Rs 100. In a shocking betrayal of her goodwill, the accused violently assaulted her, threw her to the ground, and snatched her gold chain worth approximately Rs 3 lakh before fleeing the scene.
DGPC Jammu is deeply saddened by the trauma inflicted upon Smt. Usha Kumari and stands in solidarity with her and her family.
Such acts of deception and violence not only violate the law but also tarnish the sanctity of religious symbols and the trust our communities place in them.
We commend the swift and effective response of the Doda Police, especially under the leadership of SSP Doda, Shri Sandeep Mehta.
Their prompt action led to the arrest of all five accused, reportedly hailing from Jalandhar, Punjab. DGPC Jammu urges the authorities to pursue stringent legal action to ensure justice is served and deterrence is established.
We also wish to clarify and caution the general public—particularly residents of remote areas across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir—that no religious institution, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar or different DGPC ‘s of JKUT, authorizes individuals to solicit door-to-door donations for Gurdwara construction, old age homes, or any other cause.
We appeal to all citizens: do not entertain unsolicited donation requests, especially from individuals claiming religious affiliation without verification. If approached, please inform local authorities immediately.
Let us remain vigilant, united, and committed to preserving the dignity of our communities and the sanctity of our faith.
