| Apollo launches cardiac awareness programme | | |
New Delhi, September 23rd, 2006: The Apollo Hospitals Group today launched the National Heart Plan on the prevention and management of cardiac diseases. Apollo Hospitals has been a pioneer in the field of cardiac care in India and this is a step towards their attempt to spread the awareness among the masses about preventive cardiology. This campaign extends all across the country to encourage people to take initiatives towards regular checks to prevent occurrence of cardiac diseases.
Based on this year's international World Heart Day Theme: 'How young is your Heart?' Apollo's cardiac awareness programme will motivate people across the country to remain "young at heart" for life by adopting a healthy-heart lifestyle. The campaign will aim at educating the masses about taking preventive care before any serious heart ailment.
Expressing concern over growing cardiac diseases, Dr. Baba Das, Sr. Cardio Thoracic Surgeon, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital said, "Current statistics show an alarming incidence of heart diseases among youngsters in India. Therefore the Apollo Group has taken this initiative to inform the people about the various preventive measures, thereby detecting and treating cardiac problems, at an early stage."
The cardiac programme, first of its kind in India will primarily focus at setting up camps in all 44 Apollo Hospitals and 63 telemedicine centres. These camps will spread awareness about premature heart disease and prevention of the same by distributing pamphlets, organising lectures and giving one on one counselling. This camp will continue till the end of the year 2006.
