| PCB cracks down on brick kiln | | |

Udhampur May 6- The Deputy Magistrate today sealed four stone crushers M/S Bhagwati Stone Crushers (Birwan) Udhampur, M/S National Stone Crusher (Birwan), M/S International Stone Crusher and M /S Pawan Stone Crusher, Birwan near Udhampur for violating pollution. This action was taken on the directions of the State Pollution Control.
Meanwhile PCB also cancelled NOC issued in favour of Bagwati Brick industry located at village Farana after strong resentment shown by local residents who were stressing for closing down unit as it was creating problem to villagers and nearby school children.
Crushers sealed today were causing pollution in the adjoining defence locations of the Northern Command and the residential areas from long time and despite repeated directives of PCB they were functioning with the consent of district administration.
Taking strong notice of it, the SPC in its fresh directive had directed administration to immediately close down all such crushers and initiate legal action against the owners.
Meanwhile owners of all these stone crushers have strongly condemned the step motherly treatment of Pollution Bard and district administration and has alleged that closure of these crusher is open human rights violation. They added that despite fulfilling norms unmarked by pollution control board these crushers were sealed which means snatching their only livelihood and livelihood of hundreds of those labourers associated with this job. They alleged that a number of other crushers are functional on highway in district but only these four crushers are being targeted every time which is injustice with them. They said that they will nock the door of court which is only option left with them.
