| Jail term for treasury officer | | | Early Times report Jammu, May 6- The Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu has convicted Roshan Lal Bhagat, Additional Treasury Officer, Thathri to rigorous imprisonment for 2 years with a fine of Rs.10, 000 for offences punishable under 5(2) P.C Act 2006 and one year each rigorous imprisonment under section 409, 471-RPC with a fine of Rs.5000 each for misappropriation of Rs.56, 400. However, the sentences will run concurrently. The accused has been taken into custody and lodged in District Jail Jammu. Case FIR No. 75/95 P/S VOJ was registered on October 14, 1995 following the allegations that Roshan Lal Bhagat while posted as Additional Treasury Officer, Thathri has by making insertions/interpolation in the cash memos pertaining to the purchase of medicines drawn excess amount from the Government Treasury. In the course of investigation it was established that the accused Treasury Officer had drawn money from the Government Treasury between the period 10.04.1993 to 12.03.1994 on account of his own medical expenses amounting to Rs.62,214.32 against an actual documented bill of Rs.6,214.32 only. The accused Treasury Officer had thus drawn excess amount of Rs.56, 400 and misappropriated the same, by resorting to insertions, interpolation and abuse of his official position for his own wrongful gain and corresponding wrongful loss to state exchequer. The challan of the case was produced in the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu on February 20, 1998. The trial continued for about 10 years during which the State Vigilance Organization had produced the material evidence in the court of law. The accused found guilty was convicted by the Court today.
