Two get 12-yr term in drug trafikking case

Jammu, May 06-Awarding 12 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs two lakh each to accused Gulzar Ahmed son of Ghulam Rasool son of Abdul Khaliq of Darugirian Wali Gali near Rajinder Bazar Jammu and Mushtaq Ahmed son of Ghulam Rasool Naik of Mohalla Dalpatian, who were facing trial under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act ,the 3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu RS Jain today observed that drugs menace in Jammu and Kashmir is increasing day by day and completely destroying the fiber of the society and its youth thereby calling for severe punishment in case of illegal transportation of drugs meant for illicit trade
The 3rd Additional Sessions Judge, after hearing Advocate Devki Nadan Special Public Prosecutor for NCB, further observed that the facts proved in the present case are that the accused persons were continuously indulging in commercial quantity of Charas.. In view of the facts and circumstances of the case both the accused Gulzar Ahmed and Mushtaq Ahmed are sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 12 years and fine of Rs two lakhs and in case of default of payment of fine the accused shall have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year.
According to the Narcotics Control Bureau Jammu on April 5, 2004, information was received from reliable sources that a delivery of Charas is being affected in the area of Rajinder Bazaar, Kanak Mandi Jammu. NCB Team along with custom team laid Naka at Rajinder Bazaar when two persons were noticed. Of these one of was holding card board carton in his hand and other was holding a bag. The Naka team detained the persons and on enquiry both the persons told that they purchased charas from Anantnag. On the search 4 Kg charas and 6 kg and 200 gram charas was seized from the possession of Gulzar and Mushtaq respectively. After completion of the investigation, the NCB presented the challan in the Court of law which was decided today. JNF
