| Extension lecture on environment at MIER | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu, May 6- As a regular feature of the college activities, an extension lecture on the topic “Role of Youth in Environment Conservation’’ was organized by Environment Unit of MIER College of Education. Prof Shashi Kant, Consultant, Scott & Wilson was the resource person on this occasion while Prof. Shashi Kant, Ex-head Botany & Dean, Life Sciences, University of Jammu delivered an interesting, innovative, meaningful and thought provoking lecture on the topic. In an interactive session, the speaker cleared the doubts of the audience and answered with a very useful way the queries of the students about how this environment can be made more appropriate for living in coming time. Dr. Renu Gupta, Principal, MIER College of Education, Dr. Adit Gupta Joint Director MIER, Dr Surinder Kaur administrator were among the eminent educationists who graced this occasion with their presence. This lecture was attended by the staff and students of B. Ed, B. Ed. Special Education (MR) and PGDCA. In her welcome address Dr. Renu Gupta emphasized that such programs will help us to recognize ways of making effective use of environmental resources for social, economic and cultural survival, growth and development. Further she added that the need of the hour is to make judicial use of resources and recognize the special significance of conservation of natural resources and initiate or support community efforts for the purpose. Prof. Shashi Kant said that in order to help children grow in knowledge, skills and values, attitudes and awareness relevant to environment teacher has to play an active role. While highlighting the role of youth he described them as key agents of change who can do wonders if acted upon. They may form groups or clubs and arrange exhibitions, environmental campaigns, meetings to generate awareness. Youth has the capability of influencing other members for better ways of life as they can spread information in local languages; distribute information packs, posters, showing slides and audio-visuals material etc. They can play an important role in bringing stability of ecological balances and stability of individual ecosystem in particular
