NC sold J&K identity for power: Mehbooba
5/6/2009 10:36:38 PM
Early Times Report
Kupwara, May 06 – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has said the National Conference has always used its accords with Delhi as a bargaining tool for power while trading in the process the State’s political and economic interests. “Let NC leaders name one substantial political or economic concession the State got through any of the party’s accords with Delhi,” she said.
Addressing series of public meetings in Langate assembly segment of Baramulla parliamentary constituency today, Mehbooba said instead of securing any payback for the State and its people, NC kept on conceding Jammu & Kashmir’s political identity and economic interests to Delhi for the lust of power. “NC leaders through all its accords right from the Delhi Agreement of 1952 had only surrendered the rights of the State and got nothing in return for the people except power and luxuries to build personal fortunes,” she said and added that people of the State rightly view these NC’s wicked accords with Delhi as a source of all their troubles.
“NC had sold the very soul of the State by gifting water resources to the NHPC, which generated billions from it and Jammu & Kashmir having steeped into perpetual darkness as a result”, Mehbooba said and added that Omar Abdullah had gone a step ahead of his father in handing over the fully operational Baglihar power project to NHPC within the first two months of assuming office. He said earlier Dr Farooq Abdullah had gifted seven power projects to NHPC in 2000 to please his BJP friends in NDA Government.
Ironically, to please his RSS friends Dr Farooq Abdullah had at a Hindu religious congregation in Muradabad (UP) last November offered to hand-over 8000 kanals of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), she said and added that NC’s lust for power would once again lead, not only the party, but the whole State, from one disaster to another.
