| DC Kishtwar for strict traffic laws | | | Early Times Report Kishtwar, May 06- To devise effective mechanism for streamlining traffic system for the safety of commuters in Kishtwar district, the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kishtwar, G R. Bhagat held a meeting of Traffic and Transport Departments here today. Additional District Development Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Development, SP Kishtwar, Dy.SP Traffic, DTO, ARTO Doda and Kishtwar and Manager Bus stand, Kishtwar also participated in the meeting. During the meeting the DDC exhorted upon the officers of the concerned Departments to strictly enforce the traffic rules and prevent overloading to minimize the frequency of accidents in the district. The meeting was held in the backdrop of road mishap which claimed 30 precious lives on Monday. It was decided that steps would be taken to improve the condition of link roads in the far-flung areas like Saroor, Bhadat, Bhallessa, Chatroo, Paddar, Sigdee etc. Bhagat directed the GREF authorities to undertake a cleanliness drive and black topping work on the road from helipad to bus stand. He also asked the Executive Engineers of PWD to upgrade the link roads in their jurisdiction with erection of crash barriers at vulnerable points along with signboards near blind curves at the earliest. The ARTO was directed to furnish a detailed report of different passenger vehicles plying on different routes with proper documents like fitness, insurance cover, route permits and licenses for verification. Earlier, the DDC met a deputation of Beopar Mandal and District Teachers’ Association, Kishtwar who apprised him of their demands like widening of road from bus stand to helipad, construction of parking lots, special SRTC bus service for ferrying employees, ex-gratia for accident victims etc.
