Jammu, Sept 2: District Police Udhampur continues its relentless crackdown on bovine smuggling with decisive enforcement actions taken during the months of January to August 2025. A total of 132 cases were registered, resulting in the rescue of 883 bovines from illegal transportation. 160 persons were arrested in connection with these cases, including 152 under bovine smuggling offences and 08 under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Moreover, 94 vehicles used for transportation of bovines were seized and 20 registration certificates of such vehicles were cancelled. 59 convictions were secured during this period, demonstrating the district police’s strong legal follow-through. Additionally, property attachment proceedings were initiated in 05 cases, leading to the forfeiture of 01 Tata Mobile and attachment of 03 Mahindra Bolero pickup trucks, and 01 Tata Yodha, with an estimated total value of ₹51 lakh. |
