| Budgam people vote for facilities | | | Early Times report Srinagar, May 07- Enthusiasm was evident among voters of Chrar-i-Sharief and Chadoora Assembly segments of Srinagar Parliamentary constituency which went to polls today. In early hours, people were seen coming out of their houses moving towards the polling booths. Though in the morning, the polling was slow but with the progressing of the day, the poll percentage gained momentum. Men, women and young voters were equally enthusiastic to exercise their franchise. Abdul Khaliq, 55 years was the first to cast his vote at Wathoora-44-A polling station of Chadoora Assembly segment followed by a 19 year first timer.
Manzoor Ahmad, another first-timer cast his ballot at Daulatpora-41 polling station in Chadoora segment. At Doyen-36 poling station 86 votes had been polled upto 8:30 am, where one Mst. Khatjee, aged 80, cast her vote. At Nagam 21-A and Nagam 21-B polling stations, about 40 percent votes had been polled upto 11 am while at Wadipora 30-A polling station 170 out of 320 and at Wadipora-30, 560 out of 909 voters had exercised their franchise upto 12 noon. Similarly, at 26 Kultreh 540 voters accounting for about 70 percent of the total voters of 784 and at 27 Bugam, Batapora and 28-Bugam, Batapora polling station 60 percent votes had been polled upto 12 noon.
An injured centenarian, Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh assisted by his sons also exercised his franchise at 28-Bugam in Chadoora Assembly segment.
The Chrar-i-Sharief Assembly segment also registered moderate to brisk polling. At 2-Bagi-Buchroo and 1-Buchroo polling stations, about 20 percent polling was registered in the first three hours. Similarly, at Panzan, Nagam Zaloosa, Chrar-i-Sharief, Trajbal and other stations, over 20 percent electors had cast their ballot up to 11 am. Mr. Abdul Gafar Wani, over 90, physically challenged, was escorted by his relatives to the polling booth 30- Wadipora where he cast his vote.
Dozens of first time voters and octogenarians were among thousands to exercise their franchise in Chrar-i-Sharief Assembly segment of Srinagar Parliamentary constituency.
When asked why they exercised their franchise, a number of voters said they voted for sustained development and improving basic amenities in their areas.
