| Mendhar residents facing food scarcity | | | Early Times report Jammu, May 7-Expressing his grave concern over the shortage of ration, fertilizers and worst power situation in Mendhar and adjoining localities, the former Minister and MLA Mendhar Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan has called on concerned authorities to provide fertilizers to the farmers of his area besides arranging adequate rations. He said that due to non availability of fertilizers farming community has been facing hardship. He warned that if fertilizers were not provided to the farmers on time, he would launch an agitation in support of the farming community. Coming down heavily on Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department for its failure to provide ration in Mendhar and adjoining localities, he alleged that ration was not available in government runs outlets so both BPL and APL families have been facing hardship. Most of the poor families are at the verge of starvation due to the non availability of ration. He regretted that problems of the people were brought to the notice of the authorities but no action has been taken so far. Khan, who called on Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer of Power Development Department (PDD) to apprise them of the worst power situation in his assembly segment, said that 23 power transformers are either burnt or damaged in Mendhar but authorities have not taken any step to repair these transformers. Most of the areas of Mendhar are without power, he said and demanded repair of these transformers to provide electricity to the people.
