Jammu, Sept 8: In a landmark decision under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Jammu Police, Police Post Jourian secured the conviction of two individuals for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.The Hon’ble Court delivered its verdict on 07-09-2025, marking a progressive step toward reformative justice. The convicted individuals are:- 1.Sunny Kumar S/o Milkhi Ram R/o Rakh Malal, Tehsil Khour. 2.Sachin Kumar S/o Ram Dass R/o Rakh Malal, Tehsil Jourian. The Hon’ble Court sentenced both accused to 05 days of community service, during which they will be required to mark their attendance at the court and perform community cleaning work. The incident took place on 07-09-2025 within the jurisdiction of Police Station Akhnoor, where the accused were found in an intoxicated state and causing a public disturbance. They were arrested on the spot, medically examined, and subsequently produced before the Learned Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC), Akhnoor. In a noteworthy departure from conventional punitive measures, the Hon’ble Court, exercising its discretion under Section 355 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, opted for a reformative sentence. The accused have been directed to carry out community service for five days, effective from 08-09-2025, at the Munsiff Court Complex, Akhnoor. |
