Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, GGM Science College celebrate Teachers’ Day, honouring education icons

Jammu, Sept 8: Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, in collaboration with GGM Science College Jammu, celebrated Teachers’ Day with great enthusiasm on the college campus. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Shantmanu (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary & Financial Commissioner, Higher Education Department, as Chief Guest, along with Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal GGM Science College as Guest of Honour, in the esteemed presence of Dr. Shivani Choudhary, President Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, and PDG Dr. Dushyant Choudhary, Rotary International District 3070.
The programme was organised to honour distinguished teachers from Jammu Division for their remarkable contributions to education. A Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred upon the son of soil, Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director, AIIMS, in recognition of his outstanding service in the field of medicine. Eminent academicians including Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Dr. Sunil Gupta, Dr. Joginder Singh, Dr. Pankaj Badhoria, Dr. Kuldeep Raina, and Dr. Pankaj Gupta were felicitated for their exce llence and dedication across diverse disciplines such as Medicine, Mathematics, Dogri, Physics, Music, and Chemistry.
The event commenced with the collar ceremony of the President, followed by the National Anthem. Each awardee’s profile was presented by Dr. Sandhya Bharadwaj, Project Director for the ceremony, while Dr. Banpreet Kour highlighted the illustrious career of Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shantmanu lauded teachers as true nation-builders and paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is commemorated as Teachers’ Day. He emphasised that “teachers not only shape careers but also mould the moral and cultural fabric of society. By instilling values of integrity, discipline, and compassion, they empower generations to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth.” He further appreciated Rotary Club Jammu Tawi and GGM Science College for recognising stalwarts of education and inspiring the younger generation to pursue excellence.
In her presidential address, Dr. Shivani Choudhary reiterated Rotary Club’s commitment to recognising teachers as architects of society, emphasising Dr. Radhakrishnan’s vision of holistic education that nurtures intellect, heart, and spirit—to foster intelligent virtues, ethical conduct, and spiritual growth. The Literary Committee of Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, comprising Dr. Naveen Anand, Prof. R. S. Jamwal, Dr. Twinkle Suri, Dr. Sandhya Bharadwaj, Dr. Pragya Khanna, Dr. Parveen Singh, and Dr. Banpreet Kour, assisted in finalising the overall ceremony.
The event was attended by staff and students of GGM Science College, along with executive members of Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, making it a memorable celebration of teaching excellence. The awardees were presented with citations by the dignitaries, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. R. S. Jamwal, Secretary, Rotary Club Jammu Tawi.
