| SHRC seeks details on prisoners | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar ,May 8: Heeding to the complaints of ‘inadequacies’, State Human Rights Commission has directed jail authorities at Kot Bhalwal in Jammu and Central Jail here to file detailed reports on living conditions of the prisoners languishing in the jails. Reports reaching said that besides the state's independent human rights watcher have also issued a notice to secretary (home department) and Director General Police (prisons) to file their reports on the issue. Syed Bashir-u-din, chairman of the commission, served the notice after complaints about overcrowding, drug abuses, lack of basic requirements, education avenues and scare vocational trainings and playing opportunities to the prisoners. In its notice, the SHRC has also sought report from the jails authorities about the delay in producing the under trails before courts, leading to inordinate delay to conclude the cases. Apart from the report on living condition, the SHRC has also sought details from jail authorities on recreational and welfare activities undertaken for convict detenues and under trails for their legal aid provided to them and any other grievance redressal mechanism.
