| Umar takes on Omar | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 8: Reiterating unacceptability to any ‘religious interference’, chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday castigated Chief Omar Abdullah for his ‘U-turn’ remarks, saying the Hurriyat leadership was not ‘power hungry.’ “People have given enormous sacrifices since 1931 for achieving the goal of freedom. It is unfortunate on part of State’s Chief Minister (Omar Abdullah) to remark that Hurriyat has deviated from their cause. He should go through the pages of history that this leadership has stood for just cause of the people at difficult times,” Mirwaiz according to said while addressing a Friday congregation at historic Jamia Majsid here Friday afternoon. “In-fact, you have compelled people to take a u-turn for pity interests and power. Hurriyat Conference is not power hungry but it has its own principles and goal. We will continue our struggle until dawn of ‘Azadi’ (freedom),” he said, as per a correspondent present on the occasion. After casting his vote on Thursday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said that Mirwaiz has taken a u-turn after threats from militants.
